The VF-114 "Aardvarks" was a U.S. Navy fighter squadron with a distinguished history, best known for its service during the Cold War era. Established in 1945 as VF-114, the squadron initially flying the F6F Hellcat and the F4U Corsair. However, it became most famous for its operations during the Vietnam War and the Cold War, where it flew the F-4 Phantom II and later the F-14 Tomcat.

The "Aardvarks" earned their nickname due to their original insignia, apparently inspired by the resemblance between the F-4 and the cartoon character Aardvark in the "B.C." comic strip. The squadron was known for its expertise in air-to-air combat, and precision strike missions. VF-114 saw extensive action during the Vietnam War, flying from aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. They were involved in numerous combat missions, including critical engagements against enemy aircraft and ground targets.
